Sean McCabe and Robert Morgan—August 6-19
Provincetown, MA: The Alden Gallery will present a two-person show of new work by Sean McCabe and Robert Morgan, opening on Friday, August 6, 2021, at 423 Commercial St. There will be an opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. The show will be on view through August 19.
Of his 2021 show at the Alden Gallery, his first in two years, Miami Beach-based artist Sean McCabe writes: “Just prior to the first lockdown, I had had a breakthrough in my digital work, re-imagining Dutch Golden Age paintings of still lives, particularly of flowers. I hadn’t painted new work on canvas in over a year but was completely inspired by what I was doing in crypto art and thought to do my own versions of flowers in my palette-knife style. The pandemic was psychologically difficult, and these colorful arrangements were uplifting, since I was representing life before the pandemic but influenced by work done during it. I titled the pieces after occasions and locations where you’d see floral displays in recognition of life experiences and celebrations, as if life was never interrupted. These flowers are for all of us that see better days ahead.”

Artist Robert Morgan, now based in Indiana, fell in love with Provincetown many years ago when he took workshops with Robert Henry, Jim Peters, Gregory Amenoff, and others at the Fine Arts Work Center. “Most of my oils and watercolors deal with men in relationship to the outdoors and each other, often at beaches,” says Morgan, who can be found photographing subjects around town in the summer. “The seductive combination of sun, sea, sand, and men’s bodies is one I long to preserve in paint.” The Alden gallery welcomes him back for his 14th annual show.

The Alden Gallery is open daily, 11 a.m.–5 p.m., and 6–9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, continuing through Labor Day, after which it will be open weekends through New Year’s Day, 2022. It is free and open to the public. During gallery hours, call 508-487-4230; off-hours, call 646-483-8164.
