Jim Broussard and Robert Morgan—August 23 – September 5, 2024
Provincetown, MA: The Alden Gallery will present a two-person show of new work by Jim Broussard and Robert Morgan, opening on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 423 Commercial St. The artists’ reception will be on Friday, August 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. The show will be on view through September 5.
Jim Broussard is a Provincetown painter who works primarily in oil and en plein air, painting street scenes, seascapes, and dunescapes. He studied at MassArt and, having spent summers in Provincetown since his youth, moved here year-round more than 20 years ago. His enduring subject is the town itself, which he has portrayed from every angle and during every season in his unique style and palette, which is rooted in Provincetown art colony impressionist traditions. He also frequently escapes into the Cape Cod National Seashore, where he’ll spend time alone in the dune shacks. This year’s show features many views of Provincetown from High Head, which overlooks East Harbor in Truro.
Artist Robert Morgan, based in Indiana, fell in love with Provincetown many years ago when he took workshops with Robert Henry, Jim Peters, Gregory Amenoff, and others at the Fine Arts Work Center. “Most of my oils and watercolors deal with men in relationship to the outdoors and each other, often at beaches,” says Morgan, who can be found photographing subjects around town during the summer. “The seductive combination of sun, sea, sand, and men’s bodies is one I long to preserve in paint.” The Alden gallery welcomes him back for his 17th annual show.
The Alden Gallery is open daily, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday evenings, 6-9 p.m., through mid-September, after which it will be open weekends through New Year’s Day, 2024. It is free and open to the public. During gallery hours, call 508-487-4230; off-hours, call 646-483-8164.
