Robert Glisson is from Syracuse, N.Y. and has a B.A. in Studio Arts from SUNY Cortland. He studied under Gary Trento at Syracuse University from 1989-1991. Robert’s work has shifted from figurative and portraiture to a concentration in landscape painting. Most paintings start as plein air paintings and may be refined in his studio. Sometimes, Robert works in a less predictable way. Often he takes a less successful painting, rotates the canvas and begins a new picture. He explains, “when the image is reversed many new options open up. I’ll begin to see shapes and colors for what they could be. I may use sketches at some point but these paintings are largely invented using the existing painting as an aid.”

Robert finds inspiration from a wide range of artists. “I get as much of a thrill looking at a Courbet, Turner, or Inness, as I do when I look at work of contemporary artists like Kevin MacPherson or Mary Giammarino.  When I paint I am trying to get at these feelings inside me. These artists that I admire, they felt so much. Their strength is incredible. It is very humbling.”

Robert has work in many private collections and in a gallery in Skaneateles, N.Y.

Throughout his career, Robert has done commissioned work as a fine artist and free-lanced as an illustrator.  He has done work for Prometheus Books, the American Heart Association, and the Syracuse Chiefs baseball team.

Currently, Robert has his studio in Syracuse, N.Y.
